OnlyFumes take
French Defense is a polished black cherry fragrance with a soft floral heart and a warm amber-woods drydown. The opening is the highlight: juicy cherry, airy violet leaves, and smooth liqueur energy without smelling cheap. The middle brings rose, geranium, and mimosa, then the base settles into amber, cedarwood, and blonde woods. I like it a lot, but the price makes me judge the performance and value harder. For me, French Defense lands at 8.4 / 10.

Scent journey
Today we wore French Defense from Mind Games, and this is the kind of cherry fragrance that sounds simple on paper but wears more polished than the note list makes it seem.
Performance is good, but I would not call this a monster. The public performance profile points to about 7 to 8 hours of longevity with moderate-to-strong sillage, and that feels like the right expectation for this style. The first few hours are the best. That is where the cherry, floral lift, and amber warmth feel the most complete. After that, it becomes smoother and closer, with more amber woods and less bright cherry. Wearability is actually one of the strengths here. French Defense can work dressed up, on a date, in cooler weather, at night, or anytime you want a sweet niche scent that does not smell like every other amber vanilla fragrance. The value is where I have to be conservative. At Mind Games pricing, I need the whole wear to feel special, not just the opening. French Defense smells high quality, and I do think it is one of the more memorable cherry fragrances, but the price makes me judge it harder. WHO IS THIS FOR? French Defense is for somebody who wants a cherry fragrance that feels grown, polished, and unisex. If you like black cherry, soft florals, amber, clean woods, and a little smooth liqueur feeling, this is absolutely in your lane. If you want loud projection all day, heavy gourmand sweetness, or a dark smoky cherry, this may not be your favorite. This is more elegant than aggressive. It is more polished than playful. And it works best when you want a cherry fragrance that feels expensive without becoming overly loud.
My final take on Mind Games French Defense is that this is a very good cherry niche fragrance with one of the best openings in the category.

A very close Sauvage Parfum-style alternative with strong value and a slightly fresher, less creamy drydown.

Today we wore Rasasi Hawas Highness, and I want to frame this correctly from the start.
